Full Steam Ahead

Its not uncommon for me to find any excuse to procrastinate. I often prefer thinking and daydreaming to producing. Reality doesn't often compare to my perfectionist ideals so I find reasons to avoid starting projects. Once I get going though, things usually turn out great and I find my stride. The other day I noticed that my iron, that had served me for small ironing jobs over the last 10+ years, wasn't keeping up the heavy cotton, linen, and hemp fabrics I was trying to iron creases out of. The iron was a generic house brand from a local Canadian chain supplier that cost under $10 when I originally bought it. As a welcome opportunity to get side tracked from my tasks I began the search for a quality grown-up iron that I felt it was time for.

My search led me to very expensive German irons with self-lifting bases so you don't burn your garments, because we all put the iron down on our silk blouses and walk away! Even with the expensive price tag, warranty, and quality appearance there were negative reviews about it leaking and disappointing wrinkle removal. Aesthetically the iron was very cute, but not cute enough for the triple digit price.
Having a high wattage, twice that of my store brand iron, was a common trend amoung the expensive and well rated irons I found. Finding a more reasonably priced, high wattage (1700+), high steam iron became the focus of my search.

I decided on the Black and Decker Continuous Steam Pro Iron from London Drugs. Reviews said the iron made an annoying and loud motor noise when the steam is engaged. I took a chance thinking other people were overly sensitive or received a lemon.
I brought the iron home and was very eager to plug it in. Its heavy and feels like a sturdy, quality piece. It takes less work to get creases out of the fabric because the weight alone helps remove creases. The continuous steam button is really easy to use and the steam is super powerful. The motor is loud, but its actually nice to know its working and chugging away. Steam can be turned off in a click for fusible interfacing or other uses. No drips or leaks from the steam setting! I thought all irons made puddles on the ironing board when I used the steam setting. Turns out its just $9 irons that are 10+ years old that do that. There is a also spray button for extra mist to get out really tough creases. Theres auto shut offs and movement sensors as well to stop you from charring your fabric or yourself. I'm super happy with my grown up iron, but I've also accidently dropped it from the counter recently (while shut off) and it survived with all its parts intact and is working great!

Black and Decker is not paying me, nor is the link an affiliate link. I just want you guys to be able to see the iron I've been using and am super happy with. Go wrinkle free this week!

Edited to add: In the last week the drop count for the iron has increased to 3! This last time it was rocketed off of the ironing board (while turned off of course) when a toddler ran full speed into the ironing board and tipped it over. This hulk of an iron is still going strong and working as good as new and no plastic parts have broke off during any of its crash tests, impressive!
